Geraldine "Gerri" Newell

Geraldine "Gerri" Newell, age 92, of Dover, Ohio, passed away on July 17, 2026.

Gerri was born on April 8, 1934, in Washington, Pennsylvania, to Joseph and Elizabeth Hathaway.

A graduate of Trinity High School in 1952 in Washington, Pennsylvania, she married her high school sweetheart, Robert "Bob" Newell, on July 24, 1951. Bob passed away July 12, 2000.

During her time spent in Dover, Gerri was a member of Dover First Christian Church and a past member of New Philadelphia Christian Church. She was employed by Dover Schools and the Tuscarawas County Health Department. She also volunteered for the former Community Hospice, the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, Welcome Wagon and served as a Girl Scout leader.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and loving friends.

Together, Gerri and Bob raised their children, Rita (Aaron) Couts of Strasburg and Dannie (Kim) Newell of Simpsonville, South Carolina.

She is also survived by her brother, David and his wife, Pat Hathway of Washington, Pennsylvania; her grandchildren, Caleb Couts and Kelsey (William) Tilton; and great-grandchildren, Callie Mathus and Kinzley Tilton, all of Strasburg.

Gerri will also be missed by her beloved pup, Tia, and her two kitties.

No public visitation or services are scheduled.
