George Grant “Squirt” Telle III, 88, of Dover, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, at The Inn at Northwood Village in Dover after a period of declining health.
Born in Dover on November 8, 1936, he was the son of the late George Grant Telle Jr. and Miriam Lois (Robart) Telle.
A graduate of Dover High School, George went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Army. Following his military service in Korea, he began a 36-year career with Dominion Gas, retiring after many years of dedicated work.
George was first married to the late Jane Ladrach, with whom he shared the joy of raising five sons. After Jane’s passing from cancer, George found love again and married Lynne Uppstrom Hinson in 1999 in Ionia, Michigan.
He cherished spending time in nature, especially camping, hiking, and biking with his family.
George was also deeply committed to his community. He volunteered with Mobile Meals, Wheels of Hope, and the Indian Guides. He was a long-time member of both the Tuscarawas Valley Barbershop Chorus and St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dover, where he was very active as a Sunday School teacher and choir member.
For many years, George brought joy to local parades by dressing in Native American regalia, delighting both children and adults as he walked the route.
George will be forever loved by his family including his wife, Lynne of Dover; children, Brad, Brent, Brian (Nancy), Dean (Beth Stoll), and Doug (Ann) Telle; his step-daughters, Tammy (Dale) Dulaney and Sally Hinson; brother-in-law, Dan Coenen; sisters-in-law, Sue Miller, Kay (Larry) Whitlach, and Denise Uppstrom; 22 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his first wife, Jane, George was preceded in death by his sisters, Lois (Rich) Geib and Jane Coenen.
A memorial visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center, 5600 North Wooster Ave., Dover, OH 44622 on Thursday, June 5 from 9:30 to 11:30 and a memorial service beginning at 11:30 a.m.
