George Krieger

George Junior Krieger, 96, formerly of New Philadelphia passed away November 24, 2023 in Hennis Care Center at Bolivar following a period of declining health.

Born November 18, 1927, in Mineral City, he was the son of the late George and Grace (Siebert) Smitley Krieger.

After graduating from Mineral City High School in 1946, he married Dorothy Reidl, on February 24, 1951. They celebrated 66 years of marriage before her passing in June of 2017.

George honorably served our country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  After his honorable discharge he began a career in coal mining.  He worked for many years with Valley Mining.  In his free time, he enjoyed watching the Ohio State Buckeyes and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

George will be deeply missed by his children, Pam (Jim) Miller of Magnolia, Patricia (Robert) Schaefer of Randolph, Ohio, Paula (Mark) Goudy of Bolivar, Paul (Linda) Krieger of New Philadelphia, and Perry “Mouse” (Jeri) Krieger of Grand Island, New York; 12 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren

He was preceded in passing by his parents; wife, Dorothy; siblings, George Smitley, Annie Dotts, Bessie Baker, Marian Hupp, Louis Smitley, David Smitley, Opal Such, Thomas Smitley, Wanda Beaber, Eugene Smitley, and Edward Krieger; and grandson, Terry Swank.

A graveside service will be held in Ridgecrest Memorial Garden at Dover on Monday, November 27, 2023 beginning at 2:00 PM.
