George Gerald “Jerry” Hahn, 89, of New Philadelphia passed away in New Dawn Retirement Community on December 6, 2025 following a period of declining health.
Born July 1, 1936 in New Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph W. and Hazel L. (Haney) Hahn.
After graduating from New Philadelphia High School, Jerry served for 44 years at Marlite where he was a forklift driver. He also worked at the former Daily Times in his younger years.
Jerry was married to the late Elizabeth Pauline “Libby” Smitley. Together the couple reared three children and celebrated 56 years of marriage, care and devotion to one another prior to her passing in 2013.
Jerry was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan and loved to go on bus trips with his wife. Most importantly, he was an involved and loving grandfather, rarely missed one of his grandchildren’s events.
He will be greatly missed by his two sons, Scott (Patti) Hahn and Clark (Laura) Hahn, both of New Philadelphia; his sister, Carole Hadley;
Nine grandchildren, Stephani, Joe, Ben, Clayton, Corey, Casie, Calissa, Randy, and Travis; 2 step-grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one expected great-great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Shirley Richards, Shirley Smitley and Robin Smitley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.
In addition to his wife, Jerry was preceded in passing by his daughter, Holly Johnson; and sister, Joanne Henry.
Private inurnment will be held in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
