George Carmack

George Edwin Carmack, age 84, of New Philadelphia passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, in Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital after a period of declining health.

Born in Dennison, Ohio on November 30, 1938, he was the only child of the late Ralph and Frances (Heavlin) Carmack.

George was a 1956 graduate of Dennison High School. He served his country in the United States Army in several locations until he was discharged home to help his father on the family farm.  While living in Pittsburgh, PA he met and fell in love with Joanne Luxbacher.  They married on December 28, 1963.  They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this December.

George worked hard all his life.  He spent his career at Gradall, Beaver Excavating, and Stone Products, but his pride and joy were his family.  George and Joanne cultivated their faith at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  They were active members participating in many of the parish’s activities.  He was also a lifetime member of the New Philadelphia Elks and the New Philadelphia Quaker Club.

George loved supporting his kids and grandkids activities.  He and Joanne often traveled to sporting events, band competitions, and various performances.  George also loved to travel, follow NASCAR, and cheer on Pittsburgh sports teams.

George is survived by his wife, Joanne; daughter, Caryn (Andy) Duckworth of Louisville, OH; son, Tim (Lynne) Carmack of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Caitlin (fiancé, Javier Lopez) Duckworth, Christian (Claire) Duckworth, Joseph (companion, Alexandria Anastasopoulos) Duckworth, Dana Carmack, and Kiersten Carmack; and great-grandchildren George “GEO” Duckworth, and Lola Duckworth.

The family will greet friends on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory in New Philadelphia.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Jeff Coning in Sacred Heart Catholic Church of New Philadelphia on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 10:30 AM.  Burial will immediately follow in Calvary Cemetery in New Philadelphia.
