Ernest Sam Harris, age 72, passed away on June 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Ernie was born on December 24,1953, in Dover, Ohio, and was the son of the late Homer Henry Harris and Maria Candida Harris (née Leone). He was also preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Slimack, her husband, Dr. Nicholas Slimack, and brother-in-law, Danny Johnson.

Ernie graduated from New Philadelphia High School, in 1972, and went on to build a remarkable 43-year career at Greer Steel in Dover, Ohio.

Ernie had many talents; but was best known for his ability to fix nearly anything. His passion for motorcycles, hot rods, and music reflected his vibrant personality, while his love for the outdoors and summer months showed his appreciation for the simple things in life. His spirit of adventure and kindness were felt by those far and wide, for Ernie had friends everywhere he went.

Ernie’s legacy lives on through his beloved daughter, Lindsey Harris, and his son, Seth Harris, daughter-in-law, Emily and grandson Calum. Ernie is also survived by his sister, Sherry Johnson, and cousin, Geraldo Leone, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends who will all miss him dearly.

In accordance with Ernie’s wishes, a private Celebration of Life service will be held with family and close friends. As we bid him farewell, we are reminded of the profound impact one life can have on so many, and we are eternally grateful for the time we had with him.
