Elsie Jean Holmes

Elsie Jean Holmes of New Philadelphia died Tuesday, November 18, 2008, her 83rd birthday, in Union Hospital at Dover.A daughter of the late William and Mable (Marble) Hunter, Elsie was born in 1925 at Barnhill, Ohio.Elsie retired from the Timken Company and was one of the first employees to work in the New Philadelphia plant.She was a member of the First United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia. She enjoyed bowling and camping and at one point, Elsie and her husband, Tom, vacationed in Canada for 36 consecutive years. Elsie was very family oriented and she enjoyed taking care of the needs of her family.She is survived by her son, Tom Holmes of New Philadelphia; a step-daughter, Barb Crouch of Wisconsin; grandchildren, Bill Holmes of New Philadelphia and Raejean Wyrie of Gainesville, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Christian, Marynette and Billy Holmes and Zack Wyrie all of New Philadelphia and Hunter Wyrie of Gainesville, Georgia and a former daughter-in-law, Mary Holmes of Gainesville, Georgia.Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Thomas Allen Holmes, whom she married on June 13, 1953; a son, Dennis Earl Holmes; two sisters, Grace and Elizabeth and five brothers, Ervin, Dan, Glen, Everett and Earl.A memorial service celebrating Elsie’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at 5 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia with Dr. Rev. Steve Bailey officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church.
