Elizabeth “Rose” Barnish, age 90, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, while in the care of Crossroads Hospice at Park Village Assisted Living in Dover.
Born to Marjorie Fisher, on May 29, 1935, Rose became a woman known for her strength and deep devotion to those she loved. She was a 1953 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and worked for many years for Union Hospital as a registration clerk in the Emergency Department.
Rose was one of the longest-standing members of Broadway Global Methodist Church, where she shared her beautiful voice as a lifelong choir member. Creativity was central to her life. Whether sewing or preparing a comforting meal, she poured love into everything she made. She embraced life fully, enjoying bridge with friends, shopping trips, and quiet moments with a good book. Her quick wit and warm humor brought smiles to everyone around her.
Rose and her husband Ted treasured their time in Florida, spending sunny days walking and enjoying the company of dear friends. The warm sun was her happy place. She will be remembered for her kindness, laughter, intelligence, and steadfast devotion to her family and friends. Her legacy lives on in the memories she created and the love she shared so freely.
Rose is survived by her children: Terri Reidenbach; Beth Donaldson (Scott); and Ted Barnish (Karen). Rose was a proud grandmother to Chris (Shannon), Nic (Erica), Seth, Rachel, Toni (Ben), Nicole (Charles), Kerri, Drake (Leah), and Sienna, and a delighted great-grandmother to eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her nephew, Kevin Thompson. Her family was her greatest joy, and she never missed a chance to celebrate their milestones and sporting events.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Polly Thompson (2024); her husband, Eugene Barnish (1991); her husband, Ted Demattio (2019); her son, Tim McCoy (2013); and her grandson-in-law, James L. Smith (2011). Despite great loss, Rose faced every challenge with grace.
The family will celebrate her life on Monday, November 24, 2025, from 9:30 – 11:30 AM in the Broadway Global Methodist Church at New Philadelphia where Pastor Harley Wheeler will lead a service in the church sanctuary beginning at 11:30 AM. Burial alongside her husband, Eugene, will take place in the East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia. A meal and fellowship will follow in the church social hall following services.
