Edith Viola Bair

Edith V. Bair, 96, of New Philadelphia, passed away on February 1, 2024 in Cleveland Clinic-Akron General Hospital at Akron, following a period of declining health, surrounded by family.

 

Born in Uhrichsville on December 29, 1927, Edith was the daughter of the late Ernest and Jessie (Akers) Meldrum and had been employed for over 19 years as a clerk for the Tuscarawas County Commissioners. Edith was a longtime member of Jerusalem Church at New Philadelphia and also the Tuscora Club and a former member of the Tuscarawas County Board of Mental Health.

 

Edith was an avid reader and baker, known for making the best desserts for any occasion. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband. Over their years together, they traveled to many places including Germany and Hawaii; and frequented Big Pine Key, FL every winter. 

 

On October 19, 1946, Edith married Dale E. Bair and together they raised four children and shared over 59 years of marriage until his passing on January 15, 2006. Surviving are two daughters, Elaine (William) Johnson of New Philadelphia and Ann (Jim) Hootman of New Philadelphia;  grandchildren, Tim (Keena) Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Katie (Tim) Page, Zack (Breanne) Terakedis, Krista (Tom) Handel, Jeff (Shondell) Bair, Brian Bair, Kevin (Heather) Bair, Kyle Bair, and Martin Bair; great grandchildren, Jamie (Ken) Kline, Julie and Justin Johnson, Matilyn and Brookelynn Page, Zoe, James and Alexandra Terakedis, Anneliese, Maren, Audrey, and Chase Handel, Donovan Tristano, Devon and Alana Bair, Dominic Bair, Drake and Meadow Neilson, Ali Bair,  Tristan and Elise Barnhart, and Seth and Caleb Bair; and 2 great-great grandchildren, Sage and Lily Kline.

 

In addition to her parents and her husband, Edith was also preceded in death by two sons, Larry Bair and Ron Bair; three sisters, Phyllis Meldrum, Willowdean Everett, and Shelby Snyder; one brother, Ray Meldrum; and one granddaughter, Erica Bair.

 

In keeping with her wishes, cremation care is to be provided by the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and a private family graveside service is to be held in Jerusalem Church Cemetery at New Philadelphia.

 

The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
