Dr. John Douglas Idoine, III, D.O.

Dr. John Douglas Idoine III, age 49, of Dover, Ohio, passed away on June 8, 2026.

Born on October 26, 1976, in Boston, Massachusetts, John was the son of John Douglas Idoine II and Deborah Idoine of Mount Vernon, Ohio. A native of nearby Knox County, he built a distinguished career in orthopaedic surgery and was respected throughout the region for his expertise and dedication to patient care. His passion for helping people with orthopaedic injuries came from a skiing accident while living in Colorado after high school, in which he made a full recovery and wanted to pass that kind of care and hope to others. Dr. Idoine earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2008. He completed his internship and residency at Doctor’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio in 2013, followed by a fellowship at the Cleveland Shoulder Institute in 2014. Board certified, he specialized in the treatment of complex shoulder and elbow conditions, but offered excellent care to patients with all types of orthopaedic conditions.

Dr. Idoine took pride in treating patients the last 8 years at Cleveland Clinic – Union Hospital and Ortho United in Dover, Ohio.

Outside of medicine, John loved spending time on the golf course with friends, colleagues and his children. He was a sports car enthusiast, snooker player, and talented drummer. During his younger years, he performed in musical productions, and over the last several years played drums for NewPointe Community Church’s worship team. He shared many wonderful times and adventures with his wife and children while living in New Hampshire and Ohio.

He is survived by his wife, Robin L. (Frye) Idoine; his children, John Douglas IV, Daphne, and Jocelyn; his loving parents, John Douglas Idoine II, Deborah Idoine; his two sisters, Christine (Tim) Proctor and Laura (Erik) Holler; and cherished nieces and nephews, Timothy, Abigail, Nathaniel, Elizabeth, Emily, Luke, Matthew, Faith, and Samuel. John was loved, respected, and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, patients, and the Dover community.
