Douglas L. "Doug" Simmons

Douglas L. Simmons, 69, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, June 2, 2023 in the Sharon Valley home where he was raised.

A lifelong resident of Tuscarawas County, Doug was born on March, 12, 1954 and was the son of Sarah J. (Everett) Simmons of Sharon Valley and the late Otis E. Simmons. Doug was a 1973 graduate of the former Indian Valley North High School at Tuscarawas and retired three years ago from Tucson Inc. where he worked as a heavy equipment operator. Prior to working for Tucson, Doug was employed at Stewart & Reichman.

An avid deer hunter, Doug enjoyed traveling throughout the valley counting deer and he never missed a day of visiting his mother.

In addition to his mother, Doug is survived by his three children, Courtney (Ken) Guspyt, Shilo (Mabel) Simmons and Kyle (Leisha) Simmons; his grandchildren, Morgan (Nick) Bolon, Taylor and Jordan Spillman, Kielyn, Kohen, Tanner and Everett Simmons, Easton, Payton and Camden Guspyt; his brother, Gregory (Kay) Simmons; three nieces, Shawnte, Channon and Shana and his dog, Sam.

Doug was preceded in death by his best friend, his father, Otis E. Simmons.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation care is to be provided by the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and there are to be no public services.
