Dorothy M. “Dot” Byers, 57, of Bowerston, passed away in Trinity Twin City Hospital on April 9, 2023, following sudden cardiac arrest.
Born in Dover on May 18, 1965, she was the daughter of the late Robert J. and Pearl M. (Homan) Smith.
After completing her education at Dover High School and the Buckeye Career Center, Dot completed training in home health care, received her notary public, and became an ordained minister.
She worked as a nurse’s aide at Schoenbrunn Healthcare, served as a home health aide with Ember Complete Care and also worked for Horizons. But notably, she was a devoted mother and caregiver to her daughter, Missy, and adored her grandchildren.
Dot knew no stranger and was always available to lend a helping hand. She had a passion for cooking and baking, especially her famous apple dumplings. Additionally, she loved to shop and play the lottery.
On September 24, 1994, she married her husband, Max Byers, who dearly loved her. Together, they ran his body shop, Old School Restorations. Dot will also be deeply missed by her children, Charles Smith of Bowerston, Amber (Josh) Budd of New Philadelphia, and Melissa Byers of the home; her grandchildren, Haley, Robert and Michael Smith, Hadley Renicker-Spears, Maylynn Renicker, and Alexander Lawrence; her siblings, Mary (Jeff) Gold, James Smith, Howard (Sharon) Smith, and Kenneth Smith; her brother-in-law, Chris (Teresa) Byers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
