Doris Ann Bichsel, age 81, of Mineral City, died Wednesday, September 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, while in the care of Oak Pointe Care Center at Baltic following a diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia.
Born in Union Hospital at Dover on July 20, 1944, Doris was a daughter of the late Glenn and Florence Rennicker Baumer.
She was a 1962 graduate of New Philadelphia high school and was crowned Homecoming Queen in 1961. While in school a young man named Richard Bichsel caught her eye and the two quickly became high school sweethearts. The couple married on July 18, 1964 and have spent the past 61 years raising their family and making countless memories.
Doris worked for the Sherwin Williams stores for more than a decade and later worked in various positions for the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District.
For more than 40 years, Doris enjoyed her friends and fellowship with the Eastern Star and throughout that time held multiple offices within the organization. She was known for her excellent baking, and sewing skills, having made many special occasion clothing pieces and cakes for her family. Never one to shy away from a task, she enjoyed household projects, decorating her home, and helping her husband work on their corvettes. Doris loved birds and caring for her pets but above all, family was her top priority in life.
In addition to her beloved husband, Dick, Doris will be missed by their children, Troy (Kelly) Bichsel of Dover, Lori (Jerry) Robson also of Dover; her grandchildren, Joshua (Jillian) Bichsel, Ellie Bichsel, Maddie Bichsel, and Paige (Hunter) Stein; a great-grandson, Callan Stein and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her siblings, Portia Metzger, Glenda Rittenour, Chuck Baumer, and John Albert Baumer.
In keeping with her wishes, private inurnment will take place in the Schoenbrunn Meadow Burial Park. The Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia is handling arrangements.
As a special thank you for their compassion, care, and concern, the family would like to extend their gratitude to the entire staff of Oak Pointe Care Center, their memory care unit, and to her aide, Heidi Nelson of Helping Hands.
