Doris A. Edwards

Doris A. Edwards, 91, of New Philadelphia and formerly of Steubenville peacefully left her earthly home to make her heavenly journey on Thursday, February 16, 2017.

A daughter of the late Frank and Katherine (Biro) Lighthizer, Doris was born at Wheeling, WV on March 16, 1925. She was a graduate of Steubenville “Big Red” High School and on October 6, 1951, married Owen Edwards.

Having lived most of her life in the Steubenville area, Doris and Owen relocated to New Philadelphia in 2000 to be near family. Doris was a tender loving, Christian example of a mother and grandmother. She had a friendly and magnetic personality and a genuine concern for others. Her enthusiasm and smile were second to none. She always demonstrated appreciation toward others and truly relished the smaller moments of life.

Doris was an active member of the New Philadelphia Church of Christ. She loved reading, creating floral arrangements, and never passed up a genuine bargain. Above all else, she loved supporting her granddaughters and attending their school activities.

She leaves behind a daughter, Cathy (Mark) Garrison of New Philadelphia; two granddaughters, Abby (Zack) Schaefer of Ft. Wayne, IN and Emily Garrison of Cleveland Heights, OH and her nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Owen; and three siblings, Edward, Chester, and Martha.

There will be no public visitation or services. Family services and burial will take place in Union Cemetery at Steubenville.
