Donald Dale Hawthorne, Sr.

Donald D. Hawthorne, Sr., fondly known as "Pappy" or "Pete" 84, of New Philadelphia, died March 8, 2026 at his residence following a period of declining health.

Born in Mineral City on March 17, 1941, he was the son of the late Ralph C. and Oda T. (Snyder) Hawthorne.

He married the late Judith “Judy” Louise on January 16, 1960. She preceded him in passing on July 15, 2006.

Pete was an avid “tractor guy”, whether it was driving, fixing, or collecting them. He also loved spending time on his boat at Lake Erie in his younger years with family catching Walleye. Most importantly, he was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He taught each of them the value of a hard work ethic.

He is survived by his children, Lori (Patrick) McBride of Beach City, Donald D. (Andrea) Hawthorne, Jr. of Coshocton, Jeffery James of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Christopher (Kristy) Eggerton of Wooster, Scott Eggerton of Strasburg, Jennifer (Nate) Sica of Dover, Hayley McBride of Beach City, Brittany (Sam) Barker of New Philadelphia, Bronson Hawthorne, and Grace Hawthorne of Coshocton; numerous great-grandchildren; and his sister, Marilyn Hudson.

In addition to his parents and wife, Pete was preceded in death by 11 siblings.

Family and friends may call on Thursday, March 12, 2026 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. In keeping with Pete’s wishes, there will be no service and cremation will take place following the visitation.
