Deborah Lynn McWreath, age 68, of Dover, Ohio passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023, following a period of declining health.

Born on March 2, 1955, in Washington, Pennsylvania, Debbie was a daughter of David and Alice Maley McWreath and later in life, a step-daughter of Helen McBride McWreath.

Debbie was a 1973 graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School in Houston, Pennsylvania where she was Homecoming Queen and a member of the National Honor Society. She went on to graduate from West Virginia University in 1977 where she studied Early Childhood Education. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Library Science from Kent State University.

Debbie served as the Assistant Director of the Tuscarawas County Public Library where she was instrumental in the library redesign, remodel and addition until she left that position in 1993. She then moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and was influential in the design and construction of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library – Matthews, where she also served as the Head Librarian.

After retiring, she moved back to Pennsylvania before settling in Dover, Ohio where she found the home she loved and shared with her special friends, Becky and Denny Kohler. 

Debbie had many passions in life. Among them was her love of animals, and another was her love of family and friends. Her raucous laughter and mischievous antics earned her the title of “The Fun Aunt.” 

Debbie is survived by her sisters, Darlene McWreath of Washington, Pennsylvania, Karen (Tim) Lundin of Michigan; a brother, Robert (Susan) McBride of Massachusetts as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her mother, father, and step-mother, Debbie was preceded in death by her former husband, John Hart. 

A memorial celebration of Debbie’s life will be held Monday, December 11, 2023, at 1:30 PM in the Church of the Covenant, 267 E Beau Street, Washington, Pennsylvania, 15301.

The family requests memorial contributions in Debbie’s name be directed to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Avenue, SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663 or to any animal rescue of the donor’s choice.
