David Sampsel

David A. Sampsel, 75, of Uhrichsville, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, in Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital at Dover, Ohio, following a period of declining health.

Born on September 11, 1949, in Dover, David was a son of the late Harold and Georgia (Sprowl) Sampsel. He was a high school graduate who spent his time caring for people. He was one who never met a stranger. If you were a neighbor or a new friend that he met in a waiting room, David was there to help you and be your friend. David was known for his sense of humor. 

He worked for many years in local factories. However, he had a variety of hobbies and interests that brought him immense joy. David loved to watch the Cleveland Guardians or Browns, he always cheered for the OSU Buckeyes. He had a passion for fishing and in his younger years hunting. He always had a garden and was working on a car. He also was a collector of all things. David also loved to go mushroom hunting and playing horseshoes. But, his greatest passion in life was spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. David is survived by his loving daughters, Christal (Brian) Kohler of Dover and Melisa (Rick) Cassidy of Tuscarawas; and his four grandchildren, Qua Murphy, Joshua Rininger, Julianne Cassidy and Jocelynn Cassidy.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Moore; his former wife, Etheline Sampsel; four brothers; and one sister.

The family will greet guests on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory at New Philadelphia. In keeping with David’s wishes, cremation care will follow the visitation.
