David B. Horsfall, age 71, of Port Washington, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in Ohio’s Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia, surrounded by his family, following a period of declining health.
Born in Dennison, on July 10, 1954, David was a son of the late Frank and Margaret (Jones) Horsfall. David was a 1972 graduate of Indian Valley South High School. After high school, David briefly attended OSU/ATI in Wooster before beginning 10 years of employment at Landmark in New Philadelphia. Although his primary role was delivering fuel oil, he was always one to jump in and help wherever he was needed. In September of 1984, David had an accident at home that left him a paraplegic. The fact that he thrived for over 40 years after the accident is a testament to his dynamic and resilient spirit.
David enjoyed many hobbies, such as cooking and baking, classic cars, restoring antique tractors, and following Cleveland sports, but family and friends were paramount in David’s vibrant life. He was outgoing and made friends easily and treasured them all. He was happy to be involved with the family landscaping/greenhouse business located at the home, which he helped Scott and Shelley establish. Even greater than that was his love and devotion in helping Scott and Shelley raise his “best buddies”, Ethan and Noah.
He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by his brothers, Franklin Horsfall, and John (Marian) Horsfall; nieces, Shelley (Scott) McGarr, Becky (Jason) Lucken, and Jonalee (Mike) Lesjak; nephews, Bruce (Susie) Horsfall, and Rob (Amy) Horsfall; great-nieces, Brittany (Phil) O’Connell, and Rachael Lucken; and great-nephews, Ethan McGarr, and Noah McGarr.
In addition to his parents David was preceded in death by his sister, Sarah Horsfall; half-sister, Rebecca Ann Purin; sister-in-law, Sandra Horsfall; niece, Rachael Horsfall; and nephew, Joel Horsfall.
The family will greet guests on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and again one hour before the funeral service in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia, where Pastor Ned Horsfall will lead a service in the funeral home’s chapel on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial in Frys Valley Cemetery will follow.
