Constance A. “Connie” Simmons, 82, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully and entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior on December 1, 2023, following a hard-fought struggle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Born in Dennison, Connie was the daughter of the late Edward M. and Lillian L. (Hooker) Dichler and a 1959 graduate of the former Port Washington High School at Port Washington. Following her graduation, Connie attended and graduated from Mount Union College in Alliance with a Bachelor of Arts degree and began her career as a music teacher and band director for the former Midvale High School and Newcomerstown High Schools. Following the birth of her daughters, Connie became a full-time mom and homemaker to care for her family. Later in life, Connie re-entered the workforce having worked at both Citizens Bank and then The City of New Philadelphia Tax Department.
Connie was a member of NewPointe Community Church at Dover and had also formerly attended Jerusalem Church at New Philadelphia. She will always be remembered as a selfless person who always made time to do things for others. She was extremely devoted to her family and faithful to her Lord and Savior. One of her greatest things in her life was knowing that she led her family to know the Lord.
On July 7, 1968, Connie married the love of her life, David A. Simmons and together they shared over 55 years of marriage. In addition to her husband, Connie is survived by her two daughters, Deanne (Doug) Sparr of New Philadelphia and Tisha (Paul) Sauvain of Bolivar; her grandson, Daniel Sauvain; her brother, Gary (Kay) Dichler of Bolivar and her sister-in-law, Ruth Kandel of Dover.
In addition to her parents, Connie was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” Simmons.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 from 4 to 6 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia. A funeral service honoring Connie’s life will be held in the funeral home’s chapel on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 1:30 PM with Pastor Dwight Mason officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery at Port Washington.
