Charles W. "Charlie" Albaugh, 87, passed away on July 27, 2024 in Ohio’s Lifecare Hospice-Truman House at New Philadelphia, following a brief illness.
Born at Uhrichsville, Charlie was one of four children born to the late Mary (Maxwell) Albaugh and was a 1954 graduate of the former Uhrichsville High School at Uhrichsville. Later in life, Charlie furthered his education by attending the Tuscarawas Branch of Kent State University at New Philadelphia, fulfilling a life that touched the hearts of many.
He retired from East Ohio Gas Company at New Philadelphia where Charlie's dedication and hard work shone bright as he served many years as a Customer Service Representative. His commitment to his job was evident to all who worked with him.
Outside of work, Charlie found immense joy in creating lasting memories with his beloved wife. They shared a passion for adventure, embarking on unforgettable hiking trips to the Grand Canyon and traversing through all the lower 48 states in their motorhome. These experiences highlighted Charlie's adventurous spirit and love for exploration.
Charlie was also known for his kind-hearted nature and welcoming spirit. He possessed a natural talent for storytelling that captivated all who had the pleasure of listening to him weave tales filled with humor and insight. He was a longtime member of Otterbein United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia and had also spent many years volunteering as a Little League Baseball Coach in New Philadelphia.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley A. (Wallace) Albaugh of the residence; his two sons, Chuck (Janet) Albaugh II, and Mike (Carol) Albaugh all of New Philadelphia; six grandchildren, Alyssa (Chad) Waller, Anthony (Cadi) Albaugh, Jenna Albaugh, Nathan Albaugh, Aaron Albaugh and Carmen Albaugh and five great-grandchildren, Colby and Arli Waller, Evalyn, Emma and Amelia Albaugh.
Charlie was preceded in death by his daughter, Kristi Albaugh, his three sisters, Kathryn, Betty and Wanda and his father and step-father.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 10:30 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral home at New Philadelphia with Pastor Kelly Brown officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 6 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to either Lifecare Hospice – Truman House, T4C or the Salvation Army.
