Charles D. Clinton (Chuck), age 71, passed away on July 11, 2026, after a long illness. Born on August 19, 1954 in Wheeling, WV, Chuck lived life to the fullest, embracing every day with a generous spirit, a quick smile, and an unwavering devotion to those he loved.
He spent his early years in Cadiz, Ohio and enlisted in the in the United States Army in 1971 at the age of 17 where he worked as a mechanic. He served for 7 years until he was honorably discharged in 1977. From there he worked as a mechanic for several years ultimately earning a position on the oil rig where he was seriously injured.
Chuck is survived by his two loving sisters; Debra J. Wires, his constant companion, and Joyce A. Clinton, who was his loving caregiver until he passed. Also survived by his daughter, Valerie Ann Clinton; three grandchildren, Danelle Festi, Ian Clinton, and Thomas Rothacher Jr.; several great-grandchildren; many devoted nieces and nephews, and the innumerable friends whose lives were made richer by knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Stacie Rae Clinton-Bailey, and his parents, June Ann Clinton and Charles Richard Clinton.
Chuck never met a stranger. He had a gift for making friends wherever he went and was always ready with a conversation, a helping hand, or a joke to brighten someone’s day. His larger-than-life personality left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—firing up the grill for family cookouts, riding motorcycles with the wind in his face, and hunting for the next great bargain.
Chuck will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his resourcefulness, and the fierce love he had for his family and friends. Those who knew him will remember his ornery personality, his willingness to help anyone in need, or the smell of something good on the grill or in the oven.
Family and friends will gather, Tuesday, July 14 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia to celebrate Chuck’s well-lived life. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in the East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
