Betty Marie Young, age 84, of Dover, Ohio and formerly of Westfield, Pennsylvania died early Wednesday, November 14, 2018, in The Inn at Northwood Village in Dover, Ohio while under the care of Crossroads Hospice.

Born August 30, 1934 in Meshoppen, Pennsylvania, Betty was a daughter of the late Harry and Cecil Williams Staight.

Betty and her family worked their 240-acre dairy farm for many years and during that time, served as a bus driver for more than three decades in the Galeton Area School District. Betty was a passionate sports fan who loved cheering on her children during their activities and later actively supported the teams she drove to various events. Twice a week for many years, she enjoyed driving special needs students and developed a special bond with many of them.

Betty loved life and lived it to the fullest. She was a longtime member of The Peoples Church of Potter Brook in Westfield, Pennsylvania. She enjoyed driving stock cars, ceramic work, ice skating and roller skating, riding her motorcycle and was an avid animal lover. She also enjoyed hunting and often opened her home as a hunting lodge to as many as 20 hunters at a time. She will long be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humor, and her ability to make those around her laugh.

She will be missed by her children, Debra (Karl) Kintzley of Westfield, Pennsylvania, Jean (Leon) Troyer and Troy Young all of Dover, Ohio; her granddaughter, Karla (Matthew) Postlethwait of Mineral City, Ohio; two great-grandchildren Logan and Kylar Postlethwait; three sisters, Marlene (Andrew) Bacon of Westfield, Pennsylvania, Alice Pond of Manheim, Pennsylvania, Sharon (Shaun) Ramsey of Shreveport, Lousiana; a brother, Leland “Butch” Pond of Westfield, Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Relda Pond of Dover, Delaware and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her former husband, Kenneth Young; three brothers, Raymond and Harry Staight and Thorington “Bud” Pond, and a sister-in-law, Peggy Pond.

In keeping with Betty’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or services. Cremation care will be conducted by Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory in Dover, Ohio.
