Betty Overholt

Betty M. Overholt, 96 of New Philadelphia, Ohio was promoted to Glory September 9, 2025 at 9:18pm while family members were singing some of her favorite hymns around her bedside.

She was born in Fiat, Ohio on April 28, 1929 to the late Howard and Liza (Doll) Ott. She attended grade and high school in Baltic, Ohio excelling scholastically and in athletics.

Betty loved the Lord, her life with her family, ice cream, watermelon, and her flowers. Her green thumb showed in all her many flowers around her home with the 25 hanging baskets she made each year.

She managed the Whipple Ave. Beauty Shop in Canton for more than 20 years, was manager of Schoenbrunn Racquet Club, and also had a career at Sears.

Betty served as the church secretary for about 30 years, retiring at the age of 88 from that position. She remained a pillar in charge of Swiss Steak dinners, and a candy making project yearly for over 30 years along with many other projects.

Betty has many trophies showing her gift of bowling. Betty also enjoyed playing Dominos and Chinese Checkers. She was very competitive and was still playing 2 weeks ago.

Betty is survived by her children, Judy (Rick) Lutz of Boynton Beach Fl., Janie (Larry) Hostetler, and John (Dana) Overholt of New Philadelphia; she is a grandmother to 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 2 grand pups.

She was preceded in death by her son, James R. Overholt in 1972.

The family will greet guests on Monday, September 15, 2025 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 10:00 AM in The Christian Temple of Tuscarawas County, 4249 Belden Dr. SE, Uhrichsville, OH 44683. Burial will follow in Fiat Cemetery.
