Bethann
Hinig
Feb 20, 1960 — Aug 16, 2026
New Philadelphia
An angel has left us. Bethann Hinig ended her brutal two-year battle with cancer. It was her strong faith that carried her through to the very end.
She and her husband, Rick, celebrated 30 years of marriage this year. Bethann retired after 30 years of teaching at Tusky Valley, where she taught several thousand young people not just how to read but also how to live life well.
Bethann was very active in the community she loved, supporting the Performing Arts Center, Safe Harbor, Warrior Boutique, Kent State–Tuscarawas, St. Paul’s Community Church in Mineral City, and NewPointe Community Church in Dover. She was particularly proud of her work with the Reeves Museum and its annual style show. (Don’t miss the 2027 show – she already wrote the script.) She lovingly cared for a full herd of cats at her home.
In addition to her husband, Bethann is survived by her sons Bronson Witting (wife Sarah Kate and sons Henry, Marshall, Oliver, and Colin) and Brock Witting (wife Sarah Michelle, daughter Nova, and son Nolan), and her parents, Bill and Louise Laird. How she loved those grandchildren! She was preceded in death by her brother, Brad Laird.
Bethann, and her family, were treated wonderfully by the nurses, aides, and others while at Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia. Bethann was inspired by the hundreds of friends who were praying for her, sending cards and messages, and lighting candles for her, even as far away as Europe. Amazingly, Bethann had never met many of those supporters. She will be truly missed but never forgotten.
There will be no calling hours. A celebration of Bethann’s life may be scheduled at a later date. Donations to any of her favorite organizations or Community Hospice Truman House would honor her name and memory.
*Lovingly written by Bethann's family
