Obituary

Barbara Jean Swegheimer, 79, of Dover, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026, following a period of declining health.

She was born on September 11, 1946, in Stone Creek, to the late Earl William Espenschied and Ethel Mae (Shaklee) Espenschied. Barb was a graduate of Dover High School.

On September 25, 1965, she married the late William David Swegheimer at Dover Baptist Church. Together, they built a life centered on family, friendship, and shared adventures. Barb and Bill especially loved riding their Harley motorcycle across the country, both on their own and with friends. They were known for hosting many joyful gatherings at “Mr. Bill’s Hill,” where countless cherished memories were made cutting firewood, laughing, and spending time with loved ones.

Barb dedicated many years of service to Dover City Schools, beginning by collecting lunch money and eventually becoming the head of food and cafeteria operations. She took pride in her work and the relationships she built along the way.

She also gave her time faithfully serving in the Geib Funeral Home hospitality room, where she compassionately helped care for families during times of loss.

Barb will be remembered for the beautiful blue sparkle in her eyes, her warm and friendly nature, and her fierce love and loyalty to her family. She treasured time spent with those she loved and leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and devotion.

She is survived by her sons, Paul and James, along with extended family and many dear friends who will miss her deeply.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William.

Barb’s life was a testament to love, service, and the importance of family and friendship.

Barb leaves behind her sons, James Swegheimer of Florida and Paul Swegheimer of Dover; grandchildren, Bruen and Sadie Swegheimer, and James McCartney; great-grandchildren, Eli and Koa McCartney; and his brother and sister, Ed Espenschied and Doris Hardy.

In addition to her husband and parents, Barb was preceded in passing by her brothers, David and William Espenschied.

Memorial visitation will be held at the Geib Funeral Center, 5600 N. Wooster Ave., Dover, on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

At 2:00 p.m., friends and family are invited to participate in a motorcycle ride around “Mr. Bill’s Hill,” which will conclude at Dover Burial Park for a brief committal service.

Following the service, all are welcome to return to the Geib Hospitality Center for a potluck luncheon. Those wishing to contribute to the meal are encouraged to contact Geib Funeral Home at 330-343-5506 to coordinate what they would like to bring.
