Barbara Anne (Hlivak) Crombie of Bratenahl, Ohio, passed away suddenly on the morning of March 29, 2024, in Dover, Ohio.
Barabara was born on December 22, 1940, in Cleveland. She married John Poremba, Jr., settling in Hudson, Ohio, where they raised four children. In Hudson, Barbara built a successful career as a health insurance broker with Principal Financial Group helping small businesses throughout Northeastern Ohio.
Later, Barbara loved living near the shores of Lake Erie: initially in Geneva-on-the-Lake, where she met Dr. Robert Crombie, and also at Bratenahl, where they settled after their wedding. In 2021, she moved to Dover, Ohio, to be near her son.
For many years Barbara volunteered in coordinating the annual Walk MS: Cleveland fundraiser for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. In Bratenahl, she enjoyed volunteering for the Bratenahl Blooms annual event each spring.
Barbara is survived by her adult children: John Poremba III (Sue), Peter Poremba (Ginny), Michael Poremba (Ania), and Patricia Barlow (Chris); grandchildren: Kristy, Dylan (Katie), Caitlin, Jack and Emily; and cherished great-grandchildren: Roxis, Cassady, Victoria, Charlotte and Mason. She was preceded in death by her parents Anne and Peter Hlivak; former husband John Poremba, Jr.; her sisters Virginia "Ginny" Ewart and Mary Lou Hlivak; and husband, Dr. Robert Crombie.
A memorial is planned on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 1 Bratenahl Place, Bratenahl, Ohio. Open house will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 PM, with a prayer service at 3:30 PM, located on the top floor of Building One. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the MS Foundation, the Friends of Rockefeller Park Greenhouse, or another charity of your choice.
