Barbara Lee Irvin, age 74, of New Philadelphia, died late Monday evening, June 23, 2025, while in New Dawn Health Care Center at Dover following a lengthy illness.
Born in Steubenville, Ohio on February 5, 1951, Barb was a daughter of the late Joseph “Jay” and Doris Reinhardt Mann.
She was a 1969 graduate of Toronto High School and went on to further her education at West Liberty State College where she obtained her degree in education. For the next 30 plus years Barb assisted countless children as an intervention specialist. Her first year as an educator she returned to her alma mater and the remainder of her career was spent with the New Philadelphia City Schools.
On December 30, 1972, Barb married Dick Irvin and together they raised a daughter, Bridget, and a son, Brad. Together Barb and Dick were instrumental in their children’s lives as band boosters with the New Philadelphia Marching Quakers helping in various capacities for many years. They even became known as Mommy and Daddy Irvin and second parents to many of the band students and friends of their children. Barb loved gardening, boating at Atwood Lake, spending time at the beach, and loving the family dogs, especially her grand-dog, Sadie.
In addition to her husband of 52 years, Barb will be deeply missed by her children, Bridget Irvin of New Philadelphia, and Brad Irvin of Mountlake Terrace, Washington; a sister, Karen (Dan) Mellott of Wadsworth; a nephew Randy (Laura) Kerstetter of Wadsworth; great-nieces, Kayla and Emily Kerstetter, and a great-nephew, Jay Kerstetter.
