Arthur Raymond “Ray” Ulrich, Jr., of Dover, passed away at his home on March 22, 2026 following a period of declining health.
Born on August 7, 1946, in Newcomerstown, he was the son of the late Arthur Raymond Sr. and Mary Nel (Schaeffer) Ulrich.
A 1964 graduate of Dover High School, Ray proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was an active member of the former Dover VFW, where he served as chaplain, and also belonged to the Dover American Legion. He took great pride in participating in local funeral honor guards, too.
Ray was an ordained pastor who served on the mission field in Russia. He founded and pastored Good News Christian Fellowship in Dover for 10 years and was dedicated to sharing his faith through prison ministry.
On December 3, 1966, he married his high school sweetheart, Jade Ann Mason, in Dover. Together they shared 59 years of marriage and were blessed with four children and many grandchildren. Ray especially enjoyed attending their events and supporting each of them.
In his professional life, Ray worked for the City of Dover for 30 years, retiring as City Superintendent. He was a avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and the Ohio State Buckeyes, and he cherished time spent fishing with his son and friends at Jack Lake and Leesville Lake.
Ray’s faith was nurtured at Dover First Christian Church where he was a devoted member.
He was blessed to be part of a large family including his wife, Jade; his children, Chella (Tim) Wherley, Abby (Doug) Spillman, Amanda (Ben Smith) Colvin, and Lance Ulrich; grandchildren, Ethan, Evan, Elden, and Eva Wherley, Trevor and Cassy Donaldson, Mason Colvin; step-grandchildren, Morgan Bolon, Taylor Spillman, Jordan Spillman, and Rowen Smith; his dogs, Ginger and Lacey; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in passing by his siblings, Judy Manning, John Ulrich and Gene Ulrich.
Visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 from 4 to 7 p.m. Pastor Josh Robinson will lead a service celebrating Ray’s life in Dover First Christian Church, 3029 N Wooster Ave., on Thursday, March 26, 2026 beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Dover Burial Park where the New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445 will render military honors.
