Alverda Elizabeth Babarcik, age 90, of New Philadelphia, and formerly of New Cumberland, died peacefully early Sunday morning, November 23, 2008, in Union Hospital at Dover. Born at home in York Township, July 13, 1918, Alverda was a daughter of the late William F. and Catherine Buehler Mutti. Alverda was a 1937 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and a lifetime member of the Jerusalem Church. While residing at New Cumberland, Alverda attended the New Cumberland United Methodist Church. She was a familiar face in the dining room of the Atwood Lake Resort and Conference Center where she served as a waitress until her retirement in 1991. In March, 1948, Alverda married Lawrence Babarcik. Together the couple observed 25 years together until his death July 7, 1973.Alverda leaves behind a family that includes two sons; Jerry (wife Pat) Babarcik of Atwood Lake, and Paul Babarcik of New Philadelphia, a daughter; Linda (husband Jim) Nalley of Bolivar.She’ll be sadly missed by five grandchildren, with whom she enjoyed being together with; Scott Nalley, Crista Nalley, Frances Babarcik, Larry Babarcik, and Joseph “Joey” Babarcik. Two sisters, Bernice Yakley of Sugarcreek and Edith Lahm of Dover, complete the family. In addition to her parents and husband, Alverda is preceded in death by four brothers; Albert, Emmett, Wilbert, and Cletus Mutti.Friends are invited to call Monday from 4PM – 6PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The Rev. Dr. Terry Downin will lead Mrs. Babarcik’s funeral Tuesday morning, November 25, at 10:30 in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow in the New Cumberland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
