Allen Franklin

Allen J. Franklin, 83, of Strasburg, passed away August 29, 2025.

He retired from Timken Roller Bearing after 30 years of dedicated service, including a memorable year spent in England mentoring at British Timken. Allen was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting, fishing, and anything that allowed him to be outside. He was especially known for his craftsmanship in traditional bow making through his business, Franklin Archery, earning a reputation as a true legend in the archery community.

A proud Navy veteran, Allen honorably served his country for four years in the United States Navy.

Lovingly known as "Papa" by his stepfamily, Allen had a remarkable talent for woodworking. His creations—crafted with care and shared with many—stand as lasting tributes to his skill and generosity. His memory will continue to live on through the beautiful pieces he made and the love he gave so freely.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Cheryl L. Booth Franklin; his children, Tammy (Jon) Jones, Terry (Phillip) Barbee, and Jay Franklin; and his step-children, George (Dawn) Flanagan, Kelly (Aaron) Minard, and Danny (Jenn) Flanagan.

Allen was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren: Jon and Shawna Jones, Chad Franklin Buckey, Erika Hutchison, Jayden and Lillian Franklin, Caleb, Zoey, and Sierra Minard, Richard (Hope) Flanagan, and Courtney Flanagan. He was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren.

Allen grew up in a large family of 13 children. Surviving him are his brother, Paul R. Franklin, and sisters, Joyce Tunnat and Nancy Hilderbrand.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Mae McLish and Paul R. Franklin, and by his grandson, Drew Hutchison.

Allen will be deeply missed. Fly high, Papa, fly high.

In accordance with his wishes, no public services are scheduled and Geib Funeral Center at Dover will provide his cremation care.

Memorial contributions in Allen’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
