Alice Maxwell Scott of New Philadelphia, Ohio, formerly of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on April 23, 2026, at the age of 86, following a period of declining health. Alice was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on April 3, 1940, the only child of Ottoway S. and Virginia Ivey Maxwell. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Wilbur F. “Scotty” Scott, and her only first cousin, Virginia Thompson McEwan.

She is survived by cousins William T. “Bill” McEwan, Jr., Paul W. McEwan (Elizabeth Stephenson), Alan M. McEwan (Karen C. Schliep), William T. McEwan III (Taylor), Robert A. McEwan (Sara-Leena), Monica Ruth Schliep McEwan, Richard S. McEwan, Kathleen F. McEwan, Benjamin M. McEwan, and Emma J. McEwan. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins from Scotty’s side of the family, with whom she shared many memories. Alice had two beloved cats during her adult life, Aaron and Casey.

Alice had a meaningful career at Emory University Hospital, where she was executive assistant to the head of cardiac surgery. She was a longtime member of Peachtree United Methodist Church in Atlanta, where her friends were like family to her; some of her favorite memories came from the church’s international travel. Alice and Scotty shared a love of Georgia Bulldogs football, holding season tickets for decades and forming close friendships among fellow fans. They also golfed together for years, a pastime Alice always remembered fondly. In her later years, Alice delighted in the activities of the McEwan cousins, from birthday and holiday parties to New Philadelphia Quaker athletic events.

In keeping with Alice’s wishes, there will not be a formal funeral service. She will be buried next to Scotty later this year at Arlington Memorial Park in Atlanta.
