Obituary

Alfred Doyle Abbuhl, of Gnadenhutten, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in Ohio’s Hospice, New Philadelphia, Ohio. Born on November 28, 1936, in Uhrichsville, Ohio, he was the son of Roy Abbuhl and Matilda Jean (Stubbins). A graduate of Uhrichsville High School, Doyle was employed with Joy Manufacturing (Howden Buffalo), in New Philadelphia, Ohio, from 1969 until he retired in 1998. He was preceded in death by his son Gregory Abbuhl, brothers Kenneth, Dale, Harold, David, Don, and Loren Abbuhl, and parents Roy and Matilda Abbuhl.

Doyle is survived by his wife Deloris Louise (Wright); daughter Sheila (Scott) Dumond of Ladson, SC, granddaughter Dana (Trevor) Borkin-Dumond of New Philadelphia, OH, grandson Nicholas Dumond of Ladson, SC, grandson Daniel (Elizabeth) Dumond of Mansfield, TX, granddaughter Rachel (Zenas) Breslin and great granddaughter Annabelle Breslin of Orangeburg, SC; daughter Brenda (Aaron) Ramey of New Philadelphia, OH, granddaughter Lauren (Logan) Ford and great granddaughter Kinley Ford of New Philadelphia, OH, granddaughter Emily (Nick) Shauf of New Philadelphia, OH, granddaughter Kara Ramey of Dover, OH, and granddaughter Sarah Ramey of New Philadelphia, OH. He is also survived by his brother Richard (Dick) Abbuhl and sister Barbara Wengerd.

He lived his life anchored in his faith, guided daily by his love for Christ. His devotion to the church was evident in the way he served, encouraged others, and carried himself with humility and grace. Doyle’s walk with the Lord shaped every part of who he was, and his legacy of faith continues in all who were blessed to know him. Whether teaching Sunday school, singing praise, serving, or simply offering a kind word and prayer, he reflected the love of Jesus in every interaction. He was a founder and member of the Cathedral of Praise, Uhrichsville, OH. His quiet strength, generosity, and unwavering belief in God leave behind a testimony of devotion that continues to inspire family and all who knew him.

He passionately followed his granddaughters, Lauren, Emily, Kara, and Sarah's endeavors, especially their athletics. Doyle was always in attendance with his wife supporting them from their beginnings in youth sports through their participation in varsity soccer at New Philadelphia High School. He was also a fan and supporter of the New Philadelphia High School Boys Soccer team and his son-in-law, Aaron. Doyle enjoyed visiting his daughter Sheila, son-in-law Scott, and grandchildren Dana, Nicholas, Daniel, and Rachel over the years when they lived in North Carolina. He cherished all their phone calls, visits to his home, and sharing stories, photos and music around the piano.

Doyle was an OHSAA official and truly enjoyed his decades of officiating basketball and umpiring baseball and softball games. He was passionate about singing around the piano played by his wife, whether at home or in church. He felt blessed when he was able to sing with his daughter Brenda and Sheila or able to listen to them sing his favorite songs in church. Doyle cherished every moment spent with family, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Those gatherings were some of his greatest joys, and he made them sacred by praying over everyone with gratitude and love. His holiday prayers became a tradition that shaped all our families and reflected the depth of his faith. He will be forever missed in our hearts but always remembered and with us in spirit wherever we may travel.

Services will be held at Geib Funeral Home, 116 Second Street NE, New Philadelphia, OH on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
