John Hanner was born and raised in Dover. A 1972 graduate of Dover High School, he attended the University of Akron before beginning a career with W.E. Quicksall & Associates at New Philadelphia. Since 1998, John has been affiliated with Civil Design Associates where his role varies from that of a project representative for the engineer, to the survey crew to that of backflow compliance tester.

In his spare time, John took on the role of caretaker of facilities and automotive equipment for the Geib Family & Staff in 2005. John ensures a perfect shine on the family car or funeral coach. Twice daily - at daybreak and at dusk, John tends to the parking areas, walkways and gardens surrounding the funeral home. "I want a family that uses our facilities to notice the meticulous attention to detail on the outside is on par with the care and attention they will receive from their funeral director and associate staff inside the building" says Hanner.

John has resided at Gnadenhutten since 1985, with his wife, the former Pearl Edwards - who teaches reading intervention for the Newcomerstown Schools. They have a son, Paul, of the home. A son, Brian (also affiliated with the Geib Family & Staff) and a daughter, Trooper Stephanie Hanner, of Delaware, who complete John's family. Active in the community, John is a former member of the Gnadenhutten Village Council, and the trustee's of First United Methodist Church at Gnadenhutten, where he is a member.
