Bonnie Yackey needs no introduction to the residents of Columbia and Strasburg. As a lifelong resident of Columbia, Bonnie, along with her sister and nephew, reside in the house in which she was born, and is "next-door-and across-the-street-neighbors" with her brother and niece's family.

Area residents will remember Bonnie sharing her acting talents in the Strasburg Dramatic Club and the Dover Summer Theater where she had roles in "Don't Drink the Water", "Plain and Fancy", and "Music Man".

Bonnie's love for traveling has taken her to Greenwich, England, to Switzerland, and to Norway, but she was always glad to return home to cheer on the Dover Tornadoes.

Bonnie worked for more than 40 years in the insurance profession; Park Agency at Strasburg, the Coleman Agency formerly of New Philadelphia, and the Pretorious-Coleman Insurance Agency of Dover from which she retired in 1997.

In her retirement, Bonnie has kept busy babysitting and sharing her warm personality by caring for families in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. She also continues to be active in the Strasburg United Methodist Church where she has taught the youth Sunday School class for more than 50 years, sings in the choir and actively participates on the Missions Committee and United Methodist Women Group.

When asked why she enjoys her work at Geib, Bonnie replied, "It's the people! The folks I work with are like family. I love meeting wonderful people and reconnecting with old friends...including some I haven't seen since grade school!"
