Thomas Young, 74, of New Philadelphia, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, September 12, 2017 in Union Hospital at New Philadelphia.
A son of the late Edward and Catherine “Jenny” (May) Young, Thomas was born June 26, 1943 in Union Hospital at Dover, Ohio.

Thomas graduated from St. Joe’s High School in 1962. He then went on to work and retire from AK Steel after 35 years of service. In 1962, Thomas was drafted into the United States Army where he proudly served his country for two years during the Vietnam War.

Thomas was a member of the New Philadelphia VFW, the Dover Knights of Columbus and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Thomas won the Ohio Marble Championship when he was in 8th grade. Four years later, he was First Team All-State in both football and basketball. He continued his love for sports throughout the rest of his life by supporting the professional teams in Cleveland, the University of Notre Dame and the Ohio State University. His biggest joy in life was his family and watching his children and grandchildren play sports, dance and perform at band events. He also enjoyed watching and feeding the neighborhood birds and squirrels and giving treats to the neighbor’s dogs and his grand dogs.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Seibold) Young, whom he married August 13, 1966; five children, Jennifer (Francis “Ted”) Hykes, and their children, Jocelyn, Jensen, Hunter, and Trevor; Melanie (Daniel) Fitzgerald, and their children, Ryan, Ryley, and Raegan; Heather (Lewis “Bud”) Wentz, and their children, Sydney and Griffin; Thomas T. (Jennifer) Young, and their son, Jack; and Andrew (Jill) Young, and their children, Max, Molly, Maggie; four siblings, Edward (Gerrie) Young, Jr., Sister Helena Young, David (Elizabeth) Young, and Mary Jane Vajen; sisters-in-law, Antonia Conn, Teresita Miller, Christine Stevenson and Joanne Seibold; brother-in-law, William (Jill) Seibold; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Thomas is preceded in death by his brother-in-law Michael R. Seibold and his father and mother-in-law, Michael W. and Anna Seibold.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 14, 2017 from 4 to 7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory where a Christian Wake service will begin at 6:30 PM. Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, September 15, 2017, at 1 PM in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. A meal will follow the services in Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School.
