Susan Jayne Day

April 8, 1952 — January 30, 2017

Susan Jayne Day, 64, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully in Mercy Medical Center in Canton on January 30, 2017 following a short illness.

Born in Dover on April 8, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Doreen (Dodds) Gundy. Throughout her high school career and after graduation from New Philadelphia High School, Susie worked for her family’s business, Gundy Construction. In recent years, Susie greatly loved working for Charles G. Snyder Company where she took photos and conducted inspections.

Susie married her sweetheart, James W. Day, on July 19, 1975. Together, they were blessed of the birth of their two daughters, Jenny and Jackie; and welcomed their two precious grandsons, Leo and Benjamin into their lives.

Susie enjoyed many nights by the outside fire with her dogs and family and if the Indians were on television, it was even better! She also enjoyed gardening and planting and tending to her flower gardens. Her monthly card club was a place where she played some cards; but more importantly, nurtured her dear friendships. Susie was also devoted to Otterbein United Methodist Church and her church family.

Most importantly, she was “Nama”. Nama adored her little Leo and Benjamin and loved being a grandma more than anything in the world.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, Jim, of New Philadelphia; her daughters Jenny Culler and Jackie Day both of New Philadelphia; her grandsons, Leo and Benjamin; her brother, Len Gundy of New Philadelphia; and her sister-in-law, Nancy Gundy of New Philadelphia; in addition to several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Susie was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Jessie; and her brother, Ron Gundy.

A memorial visitation will be held Thursday, February 2 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating her life will be held in the funeral home chapel Friday beginning at 1:30 with Pastor Jon Long officiating. Friends are invited to the Otterbein United Methodist Church following the service for a reception.

Memorial contributions in Susie’s memory may be directed to either Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave SW, New Philadelphia Ohio 44663 or to Otterbein United Methodist Church, 156 Beaver Ave NE, New Philadelphia.
