Robert Miller

Robert Nelson Miller, (1938-2018) 79, of Dover, died Thursday, January 11, 2018 while in the care of Community Hospice at Hennis Care Centre in Dover following a period of declining health.

Born in Dover, Ohio on November 1, 1938, Robert was a son of the late George N. Miller and Martha E (Wright) Miller.

Robert graduated from New Philadelphia High School. Robert, who was known as “Butch” to many, spent his professional career with the Gradall Co. as a welder and supervisor, retiring in 1998.

On August 20, 1960, Robert married Rita (Vaughan) and shared in nearly 58 years of marriage.

Robert’s many passions in life included spending time with his grandchildren, automobiles, fishing and gardening. Robert was a talented artist whose work was admired by family, friends, and co-workers throughout his life.

In addition to his wife, Rita, Bob is survived by his children, Jennifer (Carl) Grant of Cincinnati and Robert (Loni Dahlinger) Miller of New Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Claire and Samantha Grant and Alexis and Robbie Miller; his great-granddaughter, Evelynne; his sister, Carol Woods of New Philadelphia; his brother-in-law, James Davidson of Dover; his sister-in-law, Boots Callanan of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in passing by his parents; his sisters, Barbara Davidson and Mary Fuller; and his half-brother, George Callanan.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 from 5 to 7 PM. A service honoring Bob’s life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 beginning at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
