A son of the late Benson F. and Lotta Mae (Slaughter) Wright, Richard was born June 28, 1932 at Roscoe, Ohio in Coshocton County.

Richard graduated from Roscoe High School in 1950 and then continued his education at The Ohio State University. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps in which he attained the rank of Sergeant and served during the Korean Conflict.

On January 16, 1959, Richard married the former Judith L. Jennings and together they raised three children, Rick, Jodi and Ben. Richard and Judith were the owners and operators of the former Standard Oil Company Station and Bulk Plant at Dresden until 1970. They were then transferred to the Newcomerstown Bulk Plant and later founded R. J. Wright & Son’s, Ltd., which is currently under the operation of their sons. The couple shared 55 years of marriage prior to Judy’s passing on November 22, 2014.

He was a member of the Newcomerstown Elks, the Newcomerstown American Legion and the Masonic Lodge at Newcomerstown. His greatest hobby was working which he did up until the time of his illness. When not working, Richard enjoyed mowing.

He is survived by his children, Rick (Linda) Wright of West Lafayette, Jodi Lyn (Mitch) Bricker of Newcomerstown, and Ben (Denise) Wright of West Lafayette; his grandchildren, Caine Bricker, Andy (Hannah) Wright, Tiff (Connor) Quillin, and Whit Wright; his great-grandchildren, Brittnay and Caidee Bricker, Trent, Aurora and Rowan Wright, Jayce Rine, Grayson Hunt and Ella Quillin; a sister, Joann Parker; three brothers, Clifford, Raymond “Rat” and Freddy Wright; and many nieces and nephews.

To the Family of Richard Wright, The management and staff of Stanwade offers our deepest sympathies for your loss. Richard's story reads much like my own dad's who passed in May/2000 at 85. Hardworking entrepreneurs who made a difference. In time the tears will become smiles when you think of him. Tim Woofter
