Richard Schumacher

December 26, 1925 — February 8, 2017

Richard F. Schumacher, 91, of New Philadelphia, passed away Wednesday morning, February 8, 2017 in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia.
Born December 26, 1925, he was the son of the late Frederick and Mary (Williams) Schumacher.
After completing his formal education at Tuscarawas-Warwick High School, he married his lifelong companion, the late Gloria L. (Ramel) Schumacher, on April 19, 1947. Together, they were members of Sharon Moravian Church.
While in high school, Richard played 6-man football. He then served as a bombardier while in the United States Air Force. Richard continued his formal education at Kent State University completing his Fireman’s Training Course, later serving as a volunteer firefighter with the Tuscarawas-Warwick Volunteer Fire Department.
He was an avid Cleveland Indians and Ohio State football fan. Richard also enjoyed vacationing in Florida with his friends and family.
His professional career at Union Camp spanned 33 years prior to his retirement in 1992.
Although he was extremely proud of his children, Richard took great pride in his granddaughter, Stacy R.
Richard will be deeply missed by his family including; his son, Rick Schumacher of New Philadelphia; his daughter, Christine “Chris” (Edgar) DelaCruz of Dover; his granddaughter, Stacy Ramel S. (Damian, MD) DelaCruz Bedoya, E.d.D. of Woodstock, Georgia; and his great-granddaughters, Alexandra Sofia Bedoya and Aubree Olivia Bedoya; and his dog, Holly Su.
In addition to his parents and wife, Richard was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Thomas Schumacher.
A private graveside service will be held in Dover Burial Park.

Richard’s family would like to thank Community Hospice for their tender and compassionate care; and the Emergency department and physicians at Union Hospital and Akron General Hospital. Also, a special thanks to the employees of the Tuscarawas Marathon gas station and convenience store for always having his favorite breakfast sandwich and paper ready for him each morning.
