Randy L. Thompson, 72, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, August 27, 2017 at his home.

A son of the late Harold and Geraldine (Pickering) Thompson, Randy was born August 13, 1945 at Dennison, Ohio.

Randy attended the former Dennison High School and served in the United States Army. He was formerly employed by Ohio Power/AEP and the Pennsylvania Railroad before retiring from the Claymont City School District as a custodian.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing as well. Randy also enjoyed watching old movies and listening to old music but most of all, he cherished watching his grandson, Ryan, participate in sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Marsha (Van Fossen) Thompson whom he married on December 28, 1995; his children, Troy (Kate) Thompson of Massillon and Tammy (Todd) Meyers of Uhrichsville; his step-children, Bob (fiancé, Beth) Starkey of Tappan Lake, Ray (Amy) Starkey of Columbus and Hollie (Conrad) Mast of Dundee; his grandchildren, Ryan Thompson, Regan and Tiffany Meyers, Kohl and Kalyn Mast, Karly and Olivia Starkey and Jessica (Jedd) Potts and two great-granddaughters, Kaylie Parrish and Aubree Potts.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Jeanette Gatchell.

In keeping with Randy’s wishes there will be no calling hours or services and cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
