Margaret Anne (Penso) Stevanus, 79, of Sugarcreek, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at home in Sugarcreek after a long struggle with cancer. A daughter of the late Paul and Mary (DiGenova) Penso, Margaret was born December 21, 1937 at Dover. She was a graduate of St. Joseph High school, class of 1956.

She is survived by her husband, Reno Stevanus, whom she married May 10, 1958. In addition to her husband, she is also survived by her sons Mark (Denise), Mitch, and daughter Renee (Mitch) Jacobs, brothers Andrew (Joanne), John (Pauline), seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and her beloved poodle Frosty.

She is also preceded in death by a brother Vince, her sister Tena Miller, and a nephew Eugene Penso.

Margaret (Marge) had exceptional and accomplished cooking skills; she was very passionate about food preparation and prepared dishes on par with professional chefs; her unique baking and cooking talent was often on display with cakes prepared exclusively for relatives & friends. Her focus was especially on her grandchildren, nephews and nieces, all of whom she adored. She was very well known for her professional style in providing cakes and pastries on various celebratory occasions. Marge was a thoughtful individual who loved doing this for people. These unique traits were passed on to many. She was a kind and generous grandmother dedicated to her family. Marge also enjoyed being a Vivanne Woodard Cosmetics sales consultant and she was a lover of classical music and Italian opera.

In keeping with Margaret’s wishes, there will be no public calling hours. There will be a private Catholic service for the family on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 11 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Deacon Lyn Houze officiating.

All arrangements will be handled through the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory.

My deepest sympathy to Reno and family. Marge & I had many long conversations on the phone, she would give me cooking instructions and told such wonderful stories of growing up in her Italian family. She was always thinking of her family and their happiness & safety. I miss her but glad she is healed now. Sincerely, Barbara Glidden

I will always remember Marge whenever I make lasagna....as a teenager, I wanted to learn how to make my boyfriend's favorite food--lasagna. So, bless her heart, Marge patiently and expertly taught me how to make it from scratch! And hers was the best! I still make her recipe to this day and will always remember her kindness, her laugh and her generosity. I know she will be greatly missed by many. May God bless and comfort you with the many good memories and the love she has shared with all of you. Sincerely, April Showers Shupe

My warmest condolencess go out to Reno, Mitch, Renee, my beloved husband, my four prescious children and nephews and niece. I am so sorry that I am unable to be present in these days and know you are all in my thoughts and prayers at this time. What I enjoyed most over these 35+ years as a member of this family was having a young mother-in-law, only 20 yrs. older than me. I appreciated her love for family and providing a healthy meal. She was the first to teach me how to cook lasagna, and I was initially terrified of even trying. I still use her recipes today. We will carry nothing but fond memories of our periodic trips to Sugarcreek, sitting around the table, usually eating a beautiful birthday cake Grandma Margie had decorated for one of the grandkids, and of course talking about all their acquaintences and friends from this quaint country town who only a "local" can relate to. As we grow older, we realize that one generation passes as a new one comes "up to the plate." Today, I had the privilege of speaking by phone to Marge's 1st cousin, Dina, here in Italy. She was very saddened to hear of the passing of both her cousins in just a few short days. She sends her condolences. May the Lord be our comfort as we pass through this sad time. Love, Denise
