Marjorie “Marge” Menapace

June 18, 1927 — June 14, 2018

Marjorie “Marge” Menapace, 90, of New Philadelphia passed away peacefully with her daughter and sister, Neva, at her side in Hennis Care Center at Dover on June 14, 2018, following a period of declining health.

Born in Barnhill on June 18, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Phillip R. and Thelma (Conley) Smitley.

On September 29, 1951, Marge married the late Henry John “Hank” Menapace who preceded her in passing in 2002.

Marge was a homemaker and sold Avon for more than 40 years. Her faith was nurtured at Sacred Heart Church where she was a member of the Ladies’ Christian Benefit Association. She was also an avid reader, talented at needle point and enjoyed camping at Atwood Lake. Marge and Hank enjoyed traveling with the Model A Club and she was also an avid collector of Precious Moments.

She will be deeply missed by her family including her daughter, Brenda Menapace of New Philadelphia; her siblings, Neva Marsh of Dover, Shirley Richards of Florida, Clarence (Shirley) Smitley and Dan (Robin) Smitley, both of New Philadelphia; and her brothers-in-law, Curtis “Houg” Walton and Jerry Hahn, both of New Philadelphia. Numerous nieces and nephews complete her family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Marge was preceded in passing by her siblings, Tom Smitley, Betty Walton, Dorothy Waller, and Libby Hahn; and her infant siblings, Mildred, Philip, and Beatrice Smitley.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Monday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Father Jeff Coning will officiate her service beginning at 3 pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.

Memorial contributions in Marge’s memory may be directed to either Sacred Heart Church, 139 3rd NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
