Lois C. Brown

April 21, 1925 — August 2, 2016

Lois Charlene Brown, age 91 of Park Village Assisted Living Center at Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia, went to be with the Lord early Tuesday, August 02, 2016.

Born at New Philadelphia on April 21, 1925, Lois was born to the late Charles W. and Tessie (Dillehey) Carpenter.

Lois was a 1943 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and married Mike Plahtinsky on June 2, 1946. Together the couple reared three children and shared in 37 years of marriage prior to his passing in January, 1984.

Professionally, Lois was employed by Hercules Tire at Canton prior to relocating to White Sands, New Mexico where she worked as a secretary at the White Sands Missile Range. She later worked for the United Stated Government at Killeen, Texas and retired from Lauren Manufacturing in 1986, where she was a Laminating Operator.

Lois loved traveling; she visited all 50 states, seven foreign countries, and maintained many long-term overseas friendships. She also enjoyed reading and sewing, as well as being a member of Broadway United Methodist Church and the Golden Rule Sunday School Class.

In 2002, Lois married Forrest Brown, and the couple created a union of deep care and devotion to one another as they grew older together. They blended their families and created a family of one. Forrest preceded Lois in death on January 9, 2016.

She is survived by a lovingly blended family that includes her children, Linda (Robert) Phillips of Wichita, Kansas, and Bruce (Diana) Plahtinsky of Gambier, Ohio; her son-in-law, Jim Taylor; grandchildren, Matthew (Amy) Plahtinsky, Benjamin (Amy) Plahtinsky; and Jeffrey Taylor; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Noah, Carter, Luke and Olivia; her sister, Doris Laughlin of Canton; Forrest’s children, Linda (Jon) Martin of Eagle Bay, New York, and Ross (Sharon) Brown of Dover and their families.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Mike and Forrest, Lois was preceded in death by a daughter, Nikki Taylor; her brother, Glen D. Carpenter and her sister, Ruth Polka.

The family will greet guests on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 from 4-7PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
