Lloyd E. Roth

September 15, 1927 — August 4, 2016

Lloyd E. Roth, 88, of Dover and formerly of Port Washington, entered into a closer presence with God on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at the Inn at Northwood in Dover, following a period of declining health.

Born in Tuscarawas on September 15, 1927, he was the son of the late Edward and Lucy (Rummell) Roth. After graduating from Tuscarawas-Warwick High School, Lloyd joined the United States Army where he honorably served his country.

On March 26, 1950, Lloyd married the late Ruth M. (Miller) Roth, and for fifty-six of their fifty-nine years, they made their home on the family farm outside of Port Washington.

His professional career spanned numerous years at Gradall where he worked as a machinist. Lloyd also was a farmer, enjoying tending to the crops and gardening. His love for the outdoors and working the farm were passed on to his children and grandchildren.

Lloyd was also a talented woodworker and enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends. He frequently coordinated family gatherings which often included a hay ride.

He was a member of the Port Washington United Church of Christ as well the Schoenbrunn Valley Barbershop Chorus. He sang in the chorus alongside his friends for more than 25 years.

Lloyd will be deeply missed by his family including his daughters, Marilyn (Jeff) Stocker of Gnadenhutten, Coleen (Scott) McMath of New Albany, and Kathy (Glenn) Carlisle of Winfield; his son-in-law, Tim Grimm of Dundee; siblings, John (Ruth) Roth of Dover and Faye (Dale) Fenton of New Philadelphia; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Ruth, and his parents, Lloyd was preceded in passing by his daughter, Amy Grimm; and his two brothers, Doyle and Ben Roth.

A private family burial will take place in Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery. Friends are invited to a memorial service held in the Winfield United Methodist Church on Tuesday beginning at 11 am with Rev. LuAnn Youngman and Glenn Carlisle officiating. A meal will be shared in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.

Memorial contributions in Lloyd’s memory may be directed to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.

Lloyd’s family is very grateful to the aides at the Inn at Northwood for their love and care to him.
