Kenneth “Ryan” Wieland, 37, of New Philadelphia passed away on March 10, 2018, surrounded by his family in Schoenbrunn Healthcare Center following a courageous 7-year battle with ALS.

Born June 30, 1980 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, he was the son of Fredric “Fritz” and LuAnn (Watson) Wieland of New Philadelphia. After graduating from Garaway High School in 1998, Ryan worked for Tuscarawas County in the Road & Bridge Department. Then, he continued his employment with ODOT District 11.

Ryan loved his family deeply and enjoyed being in the outdoors. Whether he was building birdhouses with his children, restoring a scrapped car or piece of farm equipment, or riding his 4-wheeler, Ryan loved life and being surrounded by those dearest to him. Working the family farm was a hobby he found great pleasure in also.

Ryan met his wife, the former Jenifer L. Cozart, at Jerusalem Church while they were in high school. After a successful first date at the Demolition Derby, their journey continued together, ultimately marrying on July 21, 2001. They were blessed with the births of their three sons, Tomas, David, and Parker.

Ryan also will be deeply missed by his parents, Fritz and LuAnn Wieland of New Philadelphia; his siblings, Heidi (Todd) Young of East Sparta and Jake Wieland of Cincinnati; his nieces and nephews, Adriann and Cameron Young, Venya Wieland, and Grayson Kopp; his brother-in-law, Tyler Kopp of New Philadelphia; grandfather, Kenny Watson of Dover; father and mother-in-law, Mike and Yvonne Cozart of New Philadelphia; and grandmother-in-law, Ingrid Parker of New Philadelphia.

Ryan was preceded in passing by his grandparents, Louise Watson and Ben and Ida Wieland.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Tuesday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. A service will begin at 11 am on Wednesday in Jerusalem Church. Cremation care will take place and inurnment will follow in Jerusalem Church Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions in Ryan’s memory can be directed to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663 or Jerusalem Church, 1417 Stonecreek Rd. New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.

To Ryan's wife Jen., children and all family members, Kim and myself, wish to express our sincere condolence for Ryan's passing, and his long battle with ALS. I know Ryan, from having sold him an old Jeep, some years back, and from Tusc. County courthouse annex, where he did some investigating for me, regarding our family farm on Crooked Run Road. As well as from Jerusalem Church. Ryan was a truly decent and loving man, and he will be sorely missed by all. Again, our most sincere sympathy goes out to Jen and all of the family. members. I am sure Ryan will be sitting at the right had of our father in heaven, where is pain will be gone and he will have everlasting life, according to our Christian beliefs. Most sincerely, Dave Phillips

Ryan was not only my co worker but he was like family. While in the nursing home whenever it would snow Ryan would come down to my room and we would watch the snow and watch the salt trucks go bye. When ever I would see Ryan I would always say I love you Ry Ry and he would just grin. I know Ryan is in a better place but I will miss him, I will miss our time we spent together but will really miss that beautiful grin. Rest In Peace. Love you Ry Ry

Pin the tail... in this case, tape the tail. We use to cut strips from our plotter, put pieces of tape on the end. One of us would talk to a person, while the other would tape the tail to the person. We would then watch them walk around the courthouse with a tail taped to them. Oh yes we could play, but when worked needed done, you couldn't ask for a better partner. Love you Ryan.
