Kenneth Leroy Gowins Jr, 79, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, November 8, 2017 in Jackson Ridge Rehabilitation and Care Center at Canal Fulton.

A son of the late Kenneth Leroy Gowins Sr, and the late Margaret E. (Cline) Gowins, Kenneth was born October 16, 1938 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Kenneth was a veteran of the United States Army and honorably served his country during the Korean War. He was retired from Gradall at New Philadelphia and was a member of Teamsters Local #92 and #348 as well as a member of the New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445.

He enjoyed watching football and was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes. Kenneth was also an avid NASCAR fan and was especially fond of Dale Earnhardt. In his spare time, Kenneth enjoyed woodworking and making crafts.

He is survived by his daughters, Karla L. Gowins of Massillon and Denise Tidenberg and her husband, Walter II; his grandson, Walter Tidenberg III, whom he dearly loved, and his former spouse, Barbara (Uptegraph) Gowins of Navarre.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 13, 2017 from 4 to 7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia with a military honors service taking place at 4 PM. In keeping with Kenneth’s wishes, cremation will follow and a private service will take place in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Kenneth’s memory to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517.
