Kenneth Bayer

December 9, 1952 — November 27, 2018

Kenneth W. “Kenny” Bayer, age 65 of Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia died suddenly Tuesday, November 27, 2018.

Born in Union Hospital on December 9, 1952, Kenny was a son of the late Maurice and Miriam “Glee” Freshour Bayer.

Kenny was a member of Strasburg-Franklin High School’s class of 1971. As a young man, he operated his own excavating company and later owned and operated KWB Trucking and Dayna’s Express Line, where he enjoyed hauling Mac Trailers. In his early retirement, he enjoyed traveling the country with his wife, Dayna as they delivered campers to all parts of the United States.

Kenny was a longtime member of Roxford United Methodist Church, a former trustee, and a longstanding member of the Social Committee, where he was often found cooking for events at the church. He enjoyed grilling and spent his life in search of finding the perfect seasoning for pork chops.

In his early years, Kenny could be found at the Magnolia Drag Strip and in 1985 founded the Strasburg Pullers Club. He loved working in his garage and through his lifetime bought, restored and sold many Ford Fairlane cars.

Kenny is survived by his wife of 46 years, the former Dayna Shaffer whom he married on November 25, 1972; their three children, Shane Bayer of Dover, Kelly (Jim) Langenberg of Elgin, Illinois, and Amy (David) Banfield of Seville, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Ashleigh, Brentin, Makinsey, Abigail, Eislynn, Jacob, Emily, and Aubrey; a sister, Barb Limbacher of Strasburg, and a brother, Ronald Bayer of Canton; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Kenny was preceded in death by two brothers, Rodney and Denny Bayer.

The family will greet guests on Sunday, December 2, 2018 from 1-4 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Ron Heasley will lead Kenny’s service on Monday, December 3, 2018 at 10:30 AM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow in the Holmes Church Cemetery.
