Julius Ricklic, Jr.

September 26, 1933 — April 16, 2017

Julius Ricklic, Jr., 83, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, April 16, 2017 in Select Specialty Hospital at Newark, Ohio following a recent period of declining health.

A son of the late Julius Ricklic, Sr., and the late Elizabeth (Lesjak) Ricklic, Julius was born September 26, 1933 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio.

Julius graduated from New Philadelphia High School and was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Gradall at New Philadelphia after 44 years of service and was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia.

He was a member of the New Philadelphia Elks and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Julius enjoyed bowling during his younger years and was a member of the Dover – New Philadelphia Bowling Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed playing cards weekly but especially enjoyed the company and comradery of his card-playing buddies who were so kind and generous to him.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Shirley (Reid) Ricklic; his children, Jody (Dan Baker) Ricklic of Newcomerstown, Shelly Leyman of Colorado, Kevin (Tammy Harker) Baker of New Philadelphia, Debra (Randy) McCune of Port Washington and Allen Baker of New Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Megan (Zach) Laflin, Heather Baker, Christina (Aaron) McMahon, Staci (Jeremy) Ott, Quintin McCune and Heath Drescher; his great grandchildren, Jade, Christopher, Alliannah, Colton, Kenzie and Felicity; a special nephew, Tom Ferris, and a special friend, Doc Brown.

Julius was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, JoAnn (Sherrets) Ricklic and two brothers, Robert Dale Ricklic and John Ricklic.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 6 to 8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and again one hour prior to the service on Saturday. A service celebrating Julius’ life will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 10:30 AM in the funeral home with Rev. Hugh Berry officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover.
