Jane Downing

Jane Downing, 92, died Thursday, September 29, 2016 in Park Village at Dover, Ohio.

A daughter of the late Grover and Christine (Swope) Kennedy, Jane was born November 7, 1923 at Newton Falls, Ohio.

Jane was a social butterfly and enjoyed making those around her happy.  She retired from Buehler’s after working there for many years in the meat department.  Jane was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed word puzzles, novels, craft shows, bingo and spending time with her family while watching movies and drinking tea.

Jane is survived by her two daughters, Beth (Gary) Mizer of Dover and Sally Snider of Bolivar; two grandchildren, Amy (James) Hamilton and Christopher (Amy) Mizer; four great-grandchildren, Logan and Regan Hamilton and Abigail and Emma Mizer and a brother, Grover Kennedy.

In addition to her parents, Jane is preceded in death by her loving husband, John Downing, whom she married October 11, 1947; four sisters, Helen Raiff, Dorothy Davis, Ruth Hiller and Margaret Henry; a son-in-law, William Schaar, as well as an infant son, John Charles.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2016 from noon to 1pm in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia, Ohio.  A service celebrating Jane’s life will be held in the funeral home’s chapel with Deacon Ron Fondriest officiating.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.  A meal will follow in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.
