James J. Pringle, Sr., age 86 of Dover, passed away Monday, June 25, 2018 in the extended care unit of the Inn at Northwood Village.

Born June 3, 1932 in New Philadelphia, he was the son of the late George M. and Agnes Moliski Hency Pringle. He married Joann E. Chercony on August 18, 1931.

Jim was employed by Nelson Tree Service, the Warner & Swasey Company (now Gradall) and the Buckeye Joint Vocational Center (later Buckeye Career Center). Jim worked for Warner & Swasey for 25 years, from 1950 to 1976, serving as the maintenance superintendent, beginning in 1969. BJVS school superintendent Joe Carlisle hired Jim as the school maintenance superintendent in 1976, to serve at the new school’s opening that year. He retired from Buckeye in 2008.

Jim loved to be with his family, whether he was lending a helping hand or at a sporting event supporting his grandchildren. He also enjoyed his lifetime membership at the B.P.O.E. Lodge #510 where he spent many hours playing cards. Additionally, Jim spent many days on the lake fishing or on the golf course with friends.

Jim and Joann’s faith was nurtured at Sacred Heart Church, where Jim volunteered for many years sharing his knowledge and skills.
Survivors include his loving wife, Joann; his children, Jim (Betsy) Pringle of Dover and Lori (Don) Devore of New Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Nick (Debbie) Devore, Shannon (Shane) Grant, Josh Pringle, Seth (Tara) Pringle, Matt (Tatjana) Berens, and Alison Berens; seven great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Dorothy Burkholder and Kay Deibel.

Jim was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Riker, Clara Quillen, Sarah Fielding and Eleanor Hawkins; and by his brothers, George Hency and George Pringle, Jr.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 28, 2018 from 4 to 8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A Christian Wake service will begin at 4 PM and an Elks Lodge of Sorrow service will conclude visitation at 7:45 PM. Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church on Friday, June 29, 2018 beginning at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Following the committal service, a luncheon will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover, 5600 N. Wooster Ave., Dover, OH 44622.
